I’m a Professor of English and Chair of the School of Religion and Humanities at Southern Wesleyan University, a small Christian liberal arts university in South Carolina.
In 2017, I was given Charleston Southern University’s Excellence in Teaching award.
Yet, this was the same year I consciously moved my roles as a teacher and scholar down my list of priorities behind my relationship with God, family, and friends.
How, then, did I still manage to become a better teacher?
One simple reason: I began to see my responsibilities as an educator as not just a part of my discipleship but as a mirror of my role as a student of Jesus.
I learned that I’m called to be a lifelong student and disciple.
And as I learned more about how to love God and others, I found I was better able to teach and disciple my students.
I’m passionate about supporting other educators who want encouragement to see their teaching through the eyes of faith.
